Video Transcript for Performance Tool Half Inch Drive Torque Wrench Review

Today we'll be taking a look at our Performance Tools 1/2 inch Drive Torque Wrench, part number PTW3001C. Now for our at home hitch installs, we're going to need a nice trustworthy torque wrench. This is going to have the ranges from 0-foot pounds of torque all the way up to 150 foot pounds. Now the torque wrench even has a scale on it. If you have your SAE bolts 1 and 2, you're going to torque it down to 5-foot pounds, 9-foot pounds, 15-foot pounds, or 24. It's going to break it all down for you, SAE5, and over here your different bold grades. It will give you your bolt size, and the conversion. Over here, you're going to have your strengthened bolts, which are going to have your 5D and 8G.

Then your torque specifications for those as well. Now, he does have the nice swivel handle on here as well. As you're turning it, you can twist and bend your wrist. It will be fixed, it will not be the ratcheting type, so you will need to pull it off to adjust it, and go back at it again. Now, to get our bolts snug, right before we're going to torque it, we're going to use our performance tools 3/8 inch drive ratchet, part number PT20104. Now we'll go ahead and tighten it down and torque it to specifications since we've already got it ratcheted down and snug. Go ahead and place our Performance Tools torque wrench over the top, and snug it down. You can see that the needle's going to point towards whatever the torque is. For this specifications, we're going to go up to 75 pounds, which you can see it's there now. Now that we have our hitch torqued down, with our Performance Tools torque wrench, we're ready to hit the road with a nice secure hitch on the back of our vehicle.

Note that you can use this torque wrench for any application that you may need a torque wrench for. This torque wrench does even feature a life time warranty. That will do it for our review of the Performance Tools 1/2 inch drive torque wrench, part number PTW3001C.

Gotta have it!

Product was extremely helpful with my Timbren's install. I had no idea how little torque I was putting on the nuts and was very surprised at how much more tightening was needed after using this wrench. The wench provides very good leverage to tighten nuts. Only suggestion would be a way to mark the highest number when torque is applied, when upside down under a vehicle it can be difficult to see so this would help reassure you hit the mark.

Only used to to install the hitch, but it was a must have! Great price and accurate!

by:

I ordered three items. The price was right and the delivery arrived on time as stated. This was necessary because I needed to depart on a trip the next day. Thank you!

  • Spare Tire Recommendation for 2021 Jayco Eagle 330rsts
Since your trailer wheels have 6 lug nuts each, I will make recommendations based on a “6 on 5-1/2” pattern since this is by far the most common. Be sure to verify your bolt pattern before ordering. We have two 16” tire/wheel combos that have a 6 on 5-1/2 pattern and come with # ST235 85R/16 tires. The Kenda # AM35010 which comes with a plain black wheel and the Kenda # AM32734 which has a sporty aluminum wheel. Both are rated for load range E and Speed rated M for 81 MPH, and would be...

To order replacement hardware for your Curt # C12490 hitch, or any hitch for that matter, simply order # RHK and on that page Enter C12490 for the hitch item number, and select Curt from the manufacturer drop down list. This kit will supply all the hardware originally sold with the kit. I have attached a link to the hitch product page, and a link to an install demonstration on your Scion. This Curt hitch is one of the easiest to install hitches that we have. At the 0:59 mark in...

The Firestone Ride-Rite rear-axle air bag kit # F2478 is the correct one for the 2017 Ram 3500 cab and chassis version, as used for an RV. If you have a Ram 3500 pickup truck then you will use a different kit. For the 3500 pickup truck we have kit # F2616 for the 2WD and kit # F2615 for the 4WD. Both of these provide 5000-lbs of load support. We also have a heavier-duty 7500-lb-rated kit for the 4WD pickup, part # F2710. You can get the most out of any air bag system by using a compressor...

  • Can the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13152 be Installed on a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe at Home
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13152, for your 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, is a very straightforward installation which Curt has rated a 3 out of 10 for the difficulty. I am confident that you can do the installation yourself but the only issue would be making sure you have enough room to get a torque wrench, like part # PTW3001C, under your car to ensure the bolts are installed correctly. Attached is an installation video on a similar 2018 Santa Fe for you to reference. Thank you very...

  • Hitch, Wiring Harness, & Brake Controller for 2016 Dodge Durango w/3.6L
Your Durango with the 3.6L engine has a towing capacity around 6000 pounds. If you do not already have a hitch and receiver I would recommend the Draw-Tite # 75713 Class-3 Max-Frame Trailer Hitch. Of the available hitches they are only rated for 6000 pounds towing, but you can improve that with a weight distribution system if needed. I also think the Draw-Tite's are made a bit more rugged. You can also have up to an 18" spare under the back with no problem. Finally, the installation is...

In regards to trailer wheels and lug nuts, you should not be using any sort of thread locking compound such as Loctite. It's not needed and would make getting the wheels off for maintenance very troublesome. Instead, you would simply need to torque the lug nuts to the wheel specifications using a torque wrench like the 1/2" Drive Torque Wrench part # PTW3001C. I have attached for you below a wheel lug nut torque chart.

  • Is Lug Nut Torque A Specific Value or Is it a Range of Values
Torque specs for trailer wheel lug nuts usually are expressed as a range of values, since there will be differences between wheels. Wheel material, lug diameter and other factors including wear determine the correct torque range. For example, a brand new steel wheel mounted for the first time may need less torque to be secured than a 10-year-old wheel that has been installed and removed several times. The linked chart provides typical torque values for a number of different trailer wheels....
